A speculative science institute that studies the honeycomb rock on the Sydney coast. Stone is a slow animation, so I built a website where you can speed it up.

The brief
Deep time is easier to feel than to read. Nobody scrolls through a quarter of a million years of erosion for fun, unless the scroll is the erosion.
The idea
Every section is an instrument, not a page. Move the cursor and the rock weathers. Scroll and a clipping plane slices through a real-time 3D cavity of Sydney sandstone. You are the weather.

The system
The mark is a section through a single tafoni cavity: seven nested isolines filled with a thermal gradient that never sits still. Next.js, Three.js, custom GLSL and GSAP, plus a physics arcade game, because learning disguised as play is still learning.
